Mosqoy Summary of Project:
The Mosqoy Foundation is a charitable organization working to bridge cross-cultural gaps between North America and Peru. We aim to realize the dreams of Peruvian students and textile workers through our two projects, Project Colibri and Banco de Jovenes. Total Funding Goal: $2,140 USD For one year of expenses for ten students | How You Can Help:
- $15 provides school transportation for one month, for one student
- $25 provides school supplies for one month, for one student
- $42 provides one month of Tuition for one student
- $42 provides one month of Housing for one student

More Information About This Project:
Our Goals: To educate through Youth Bank for the Future, a project aiming to provide post-secondary education for twenty graduating students in Ollantaytambo, in hopes of establishing a stronger base of professionals in future generations.
To preserve through Project Colibri: Strands for Sustainability, working with textiles communities to keep their art and culture alive.
To connect generations, and the elders and youth of the Andes, spread awareness between the cultures and languages of Canada and Peru, and bridge the gap in the commodity chain between producer and consumer. |
Activities:
Youth Bank: The objective of Youth Bank is to provide educational opportunities for the children of the Patakancha Valley who cannot afford to continue their studies after high school. Our hope is to create more leaders in the community and establish a chain of reciprocity for families to sustain themselves.
The children of Ollantaytambo and the Patakancha Valley (in the Sacred Valley region of Peru) have no means of turning their future dreams into reality after they graduate from high school. On average, only two or three students out of the 70 that graduate each year from Colegio Estatal Mixto Ollantay will continue their studies at a technical institute or university. Colegio Ollantay is the only high school in the town, and the only one available to children from the poor communities of the Patakancha Valley. The rest will follow their family jobs either working in the markets or on the farms, uneducated and without an income to support a family of their own. Every generation of children becomes poorer, and the number of professionals in the community is decreasing rapidly, representing only 5% of the district’s population.
Project Colibri: Peruvian Textiles, Strands for Sustainability provides an outlet to sell textiles from the Sacred Valley region to North America. The aim of this project is to establish sustainability in the Sacred Valley region through the tradition of textiles, which is an integral part of the Peruvian culture, history, and economy. Over the last decade, this tradition has rapidly declined, as the younger generation of women are buying and selling textiles instead of learning the art from their elders. With this project, we aim to revitalize this important aspect of their culture and with it, establish a stronger economy in the campesino villages.
Project Colibri works directly with textile workers of the Sacred Valley, buying textiles and wool from weavers who could not normally make enough sales to sustain their families. All prices are fair and negotiated. |
